Flamenco is an art that evolves from within and this is essential to my method of teaching. Having gone through the experience of accessing a traditional form in a critical fashion, I identify key elements that are characteristic of the form like the compás (rhythm), but also share elements that resonate most in, and of me.
I teach choreographic structures, methods of technique, and stylistic approaches, giving emphasis to the practice of moving in measured sequences in partnership to musical accompaniment.
Flamenco is a transnational form and can contain a wide variation of both professional and nonprofessional dancers’ backgrounds, skills and ages. I encourage the space for each individual to experience the dance in their own way.
Since 1999, I have taught elementary through to advanced levels and maintained steady partnerships with a number of dance studios in Australia. As a guest teacher I have conducted workshops internationally in China, Taiwan, Canada, Germany, France and New Zealand, and continue to have a presence in Hong Kong and the UK.
More recent affiliations include: The Australian Ballet School – Summer School Vocational Program (Since 2012), and the original cast members of Strictly Ballroom ‘The Musical’ for the Australian production in 2014/15. I currently teach in Melbourne.
